Location: South Africa » Free State » Eastern Free State » Clocolan

Standing guard over Clocolan is the 1820 m high Hlohlowane Mountain. Clocolan derived it’s name from the Sotho word ‘Hlohloloane’ meaning ‘push and fight’. The Basotho who lived here, after the ancient Kwena became extinct, were driven out by brigands in the early 1800’s. This gracious, sunny town offers spectacular views of the Maluti Mountains and is graced with awesome contrasting scenery all year round. From cherry blossoms in spring, to snow capped peaks in winter, the sights never cease to amaze. Two dams in the vicinity offer excellent water sport and angling opportunities, plus a scenic caravan park with camping sites.
