The small seaside village of Kenton-on-sea, with it’s golden beaches and shallow lagoon is the perfect holiday destination for nature and water sport enthusiasts. GENERAL INFORMATION How to get there Port Elizabeth 130 km Altitude: Situated at sea level Banks Absa, Standard (ATM) River Bushmans River, Kariega River HISTORICAL VIEW Diaz Cross A replica of the original cross erected by Bartholomeu Diaz at Kwaaihoek in 1844 Volo Shipwreck The Norwegian barque, Volo was wrecked here on 16 May 1896. Unfortunately there is no wreckage to be seen. However Clive Gardner’s home, The Barracks, has as it’s front door two of the barque’s doors, presumably from the captain’s cabin. His grandfather helped the survivors salvage as much as they could and provided accommodation, as did all those in Bushmans River Mouth at the time.
