Amongst all this natural splendour the Gerber family has created the tranquil Fernery with its lovely display of indigenous ferns and excellent restaurant, as well as luxury accommodation in both the magnificent Lodge which has unrivalled views over the Indian Ocean, and in eight secluded chalets nestled along the river gorge.

Each magnificent Honeymoon Suite opens with sliding doors onto a private deck that has unbelievable views of the river gorge and ocean, and loungers on which to enjoy a sundowner or bask in the sun. Each en suite bathroom has a spa bath from which you can gaze out, in absolute privacy, over the Indian Ocean!

The beautifully furnished B&B Chalets are set in indigenous fynbos along the Sandrif river, offering guests the perfect country retreat. Spacious and secluded, each chalet is equipped for a luxurious bed and breakfast stay and has a ceramic fireplace in the open plan sitting room for the cold winter evenings. Each chalet sleeps two in either twin or king size luxury and opens onto a protected deck area where there is a weber braai, and beautiful views of the mountains and river.

Self-Catering Family Chalets 2

The delightful self-catering units sleep 4 people on an open plan basis – 2 upstairs in the loft and 2 downstairs, and are ideal for families. Beautifully decorated and furnished for a luxurious stay, each chalet has a cosy ceramic fireplace in the open plan sitting room and the kitchenette is well equipped with a microwave, fridge and Salton two plate oven. The chalet opens onto a protected deck area with a weber braai, and beautiful views of the mountains and river. NB: Breakfast is not included in the quoted rate.

Self-Catering Twin Chalet 2

The luxurious twin chalets are the perfect choice for couples travelling together as they consist of two spacious en suite open-plan bed and sitting rooms, each with a cosy fireplace, flat screen television and pull out bed for an extra child. The modern suites are beautifully decorated and open onto a deck with a plunge pool and a view over the river. Each twin chalet has a well equipped central kitchen, bridging the two rooms, with a dining table for shared self-catering and socializing, while allowing guests perfect privacy when desired. NB: Breakfast is not included in the quoted.

Garden Lodge Suite 2

Beautiful suites, individually decorated, with cosy seating in the lovely bay windows and tranquil garden views. The en suite bathrooms are large and absolutely stunning, with walk-in shower, large bath and twin basins. From one of the suites one can lie in the bath and gaze out on the river gorge and in Victorian ones view is of the fern filled private garden. (Beds can be made up as twins).

Imagine sitting above a 30-metre waterfall, with breathtaking views of a river gorge and the wild Indian Ocean. This is the setting of The Fernery Lodge. It is hard to decide whether to admire the incredible surroundings from the Lodge's deck area with the swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and gym, or to enjoy it from any one of the six deluxe suites.

Each suite is tastefully decorated and every effort has been made to ensure our guests' comfort, from DSTV and an en-suite bathroom to a private deck with beautiful views. For complete opulence, try The Honeymoon Suite with its luxurious spa bath. At the end of a tough day relaxing, guests can wander through our wine cellar and select a bottle of wine before making their way to the Cellar Dining Room for excellent cuisine and an equally enjoyable atmosphere.

Children are welcome in the Chalets, but regrettably no children under the age of 12 years are permitted in the Lodge and dinner restaurant due to its ambiance.

There are both B&B and self catering chalets, each beautifully appointed and privately located, so you can enjoy a peaceful paradise experience. Relax in nature and treat your soul to views of mystical waterfalls, rock pools and the vast Indian Ocean.

The B&B chalets sleep 2 in either twin- or king size luxury, whereas the self catering chalets sleep 4 and have fully equipped kitchenettes, making them ideal for families - or choose one of the plush twin chalets (ideal for 2 couples) which offer en-suite bathrooms and private lounges, fully equipped kitchen and a private plunge pool on the deck.

All the chalets are beautifully decorated and each chalet has a unique theme inspired by its magnificent surroundings. Enjoy the tranquility of the mountains and forests from the privacy of the sheltered deck or curl up in front of the cosy ceramic fireplace with a good book. End off the evening with a barbecue on your deck - simply arrange beforehand and you will be provided with everything from the ingredients to the Weber.

An entertainment area with dart board, satellite television and sauna, as well as a swimming pool, is at the guests disposal. A large jacuzzi, perched on the edge of the river gorge, is a favourite with our guests, and can be enjoyed with a bottle of wine or champagne.
