So is a visit to the "Town House." Fully furnished in the style of the early 1900s, and "Arbeidsgenot", the home of CJ Langenhoven - A famous South African writer and poet of days gone by.

30km to the north are the Cango Caves with its spectacular formations shaped over millions of years. Tours are conducted daily on the hour, throughout the year. The Caves complex includes a restaurant, curio shop, museum, and even a self-service creche and kennel for baby and pet.On the way to the Caves, visit "Cheetahland" with its timber suspended walkway across mesh enclosures housing lion, cheetah and jaguar. The "Wilgewandel" Camel Riding complex is also along the way and can be visited daily. The Prince Albert, the Outeniqua and the awe-inspiring Swartberg Passes, fairly close to Oudtshoorn, offer enjoyable drives. More places of interest will be pointed out to our guests, on arrival.

In 1972 the CP Nel collection was brought to its present home - the former Oudtshoorn Boys' High School. As a result of this, the sandstone building, with its beautiful clock tower, was saved from demolition. The building as a whole dates back to the second "ostrich feather boom" (1900 - 1914) and was declared a National Monument in 1981.

LE ROUX TOWNHOUSE

The house was built in 1909, when Oudtshoorn was in the midst of the second Ostrich Feather Boom (1900 -1914). Money being no object, the brief for this Townhouse was that it be designed by one of Oudtshoorn's best-known architects, with the most modern innovations, and built with the best of imported and local materials.

The Le Roux Townhouse is situated in High Street, between Church and St Saviour Street.
