Attractions

"Where the browns breed and the rainbow feed" - simplicity is our other motto!

We encourage barbless fly fishing and ask that any brown trout caught are returned to the waters. The rainbow trout are stocked but the browns have been breeding naturally in the river, Alex se Loop, since the 1920's when it was first stocked by Mr Braun.Mpumalanga Highlands Meander Battlefield Tours (old north-eastern Transvaal)

ince 1876 the Boers and Brits had been seriously trying to put an end to the 'native problem' in the old north eastern Transvaal, Sir Garnet Wolseley finally succeeding November 1879 with the capture of Sekhukhune. But the Boers were becoming dissatisfied with British rule and so began the First War of Independence or Anglo Boer War 1880-1881. Success for the Boers but for how long would the Transvaal remain at peace? The discovery of gold on the Witwatersrand would be one of the catalysts that would lead up to the 2nd Anglo Boer War or South African War 1899-1902. The Battle of Bergendal, August 1900, saw the fighting enter the Highlands Meander region where British troops remained until the end of the war, May 1902.

So if the fish are not biting, catch a bit of 'live' history instead!
