| Situated in the picturesque Highlands of the Eastern Free State the Guest Farm offers picturesque walks, bushman paintings and Bass fishing, on site with Trout fishing within a ten kilometer radius. There is quad rides, volleyball, mini golf, swimming pool and a Chapel. DSTV is available in the “Mug ‘n Cap” ladies bar. Three excellent golf courses are within a half hours drive of the Guest Farm. The courses are in Bethlehem, Clarens and Ficksburg, with a proposed Golf Estate only eighteen kilometers away. the ski slopes in Lesotho are only an hour away, passports are required. Horse riding is available on two of the neighbouring farms. Excellent farm style cooking is the order of the day, with freshly baked bread rolls made daily, together with homemade biscuits and cakes for tea. Carolina Guest Farm is situated on the farm Carolina, named after one of the daughters of the original owner back in the late 1800’s. The farm itself is a working farm and is 320 ha in size, the crops grown are mainly Maize and Wheat, the livestock on the farm consists of Cattle, Sheep, Pigs, two Horses, an Ostrich (Osity), Chickens, Ducks, Geese and four dogs, with an unknown number of water birds. The little farming town of Fouriesburg lies 5kms to the North West of the farm and is considered to be the cross roads of the Eastern Free State and the Gateway to Lesotho. The Fouriesburg area in which the guest farm in situated, is one of the best farming areas in the Free State and boasts the largest Cherry Farm in Southern Africa together with some of the largest Asparagus farms in the country. The area is renowned for its Sand Stone architecture, some of which is of historical significance. The area also has a very healthy climate, even though the variation in temperature is so great, on average the area experiences a variation of between 16 and 18 degrees within the space of twenty-four hours. The air is clean and brisk with no pollution present, first timers to the area are often overwhelmed by the clean, fresh unpolluted air. |
