The Tents The Tents @ KolKol: Many of us would like to experience something unique and unusual. Camping is one of those experiences that allow you to step out of your comfort zone and fall back to life's bare necessities. These "bare necessities" may however not appeal to everyone! Now you have the opportunity to come up close and personal with the rawness and ruggedness of nature, but in pure comfort and luxury! Both tents are set on their own wooden decks, equipped for self-catering purposes and even has its own wood-fired hot tub. Energy used for lighting and heating, is generated from solar panels and gas. With your only surroundings being fynbos, grass-green mountains and fresh farm air, this accommodation is completely private and exclusive and offers you the best of both worlds. Let The Tents @ KolKol Mountain Lodge give new meaning to the words - "different", "unexpected" and "extraordinary"! Remember this when checking into your tent... We are trying to go the "Green Route" - All energy in both tents are generated from solar panels and gas - please inform us should any gas run out or if lights are not working properly. Please only switch on necessary lights. Both tents have gas geysers - for the flame to ignite, be sure to turn the hot tap open nice and wide. When using the gas stove and oven, be sure to turn it off correctly when finished with your cooking. When using the gas heater, please do not let it stand too close to any furniture and be sure to close the gas outlet properly when turning off the heater. Please do not smoke in the tent or throw cigarette buds into the fynbos. If it is too cold to use the gasbraai outside, you are welcome to cook inside in the middle part of the tent. Please then close the flaps in front of the kitchen as well as the sleeping area so that the smoke will not be drawn into the linen. The flap in front of you can however be opened. The water has a light brown colour as it is mountain water. It is perfectly safe and good to drink. Pack warm clothing; Windbreaker jacket, warm socks and a bini. Oh yes - and remember your bathing costume! You are in the middle of nature, where all sorts of animals, insects and birds etc. find their homes. They may just drop in to wish you a warm welcome. Please inform us if you think that one of them might be dangerous or harmful. And very important - remember to lie back, relax and enjoy the peace and quiet nature has to offer... The Tented accommodation includes the following: 2 x Full furnished freestanding luxury tents each with: - 1 x DBL bed which can also be separated into twin beds or two single beds - Bed lined, blankets and towels - Extra mattress with bed linen could be supplied (can sleep child under 10 years) - One bathroom with bath, washbasin and toilet - Outside shower with hot and cold water - Seating area with table and chairs - Solar energy for lighting, fridge and cd player; other appliances, gas - Kitchenette area equipped with: Crockery, cutlery, utensils, two plate gas stove with small oven and grill, small fridge with freezer compartment and washbasin with cloths and dish washing liquid. - Gasbraaier with braai tools - Private wood-fired hot-tub. By using only pine cones, wood and a specialized wood fired stove, we are now able to heat the plunge pool up to 40 degrees Celsius. Imagine yourself soaking in a steaming hot pool on a chilly evening; add a crackling fire, an endless starry sky and a glass of fine red wine or maybe make an early start to your day and enjoy the hot water whilst sipping on a freshly brewed cup of coffee and watching the sun rise on the horizon. Instructions for heating the pool: - Get your friends and family together
- Book a breakaway at KolKol Moutain Lodge
- Light the fire inside the specialized stove by using pine cones and wood
- For best results, stoke the fire every 20 minutes
- The heating time will be between 3 - 31/2 hours
- Check the thermometer frequently
- 38 degrees Celsius is a comfortable temperature
- Fill your glass
- Get in the pool
- Lay back, relax and enjoy!
NB: To get that early morning hot dip; remember to place the covers on the pool during night time.
Some Benefits of hot water: - Muscle relaxation: Warm blood reaches deeper and deeper into the muscles, causing the vessels to expand. Hot water also helps deaden muscle pain by easing any pinching of nerves or blood vessels, and by helping the muscle rid itself of lactic acid and other metabolic wastes.
- Temporary pain relief: As the body tries to register a temperature change, the central nervous system becomes depressed, contributing to muscle relaxation and temporary pain relief.
- Priming the muscles: By relaxing muscles, hot water helps increase their range of motion to allow for gentle exercise and stretching in the pool.
Help for insomnia: Sleep deepens as body temperature falls. As a result, some medical experts recommend that anyone wanting to induce sleep, soak in water of approximately 39 degrees Celsius about two hours before bedtime. Activities KolKol: KolKol Hiking Trail: Take to the mountains - get your family and friends together, put on your hiking shoes, pack a picnic basket and head up the mountain for stunning views over the "laslappie lande" of the Overberg region. Take out your binoculars and spot the bird species farm that find their homes on this Fynbos | |
