Set on a bluff looking eastwards over the everchanging expanse of lake St Lucia, a World Heritage Site, the camp is an ideal base for birdwatching and provides opportunities to view terrestial forest birds as well as a variety of equatic birds, both fresh water and marine. NB:Due to the presence of elephants on the western shores of Lake St Lucia the self guided trails are no longer available to the public due to safety considerations. Though swimming is not allowed in the lake because of crocodiles and hippos there is a swimming pool in the camp and a screened area (lapa) where barbecue facilities are available. Charters Creek is ideally situated in relation to other wildlife activities in the area and is approximately an hours drive from the Hluhluwe Umfolozi Park, Mkhuze and St Lucia Estuary. Charters Creek offers basic conference facilities that can accommodate 30 delegates in surrounds that relax the spirit and sharpen the mind. To book phone the Camp Manager on 035 5509000 or fax on 035 550 9001 NB Visitors intending to visit Charter`s Creek, Fani`s Island or False Bay should be aware of the drought conditions that are currently being experienced in northern KwaZulu-Natal, particularly over the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park. There are no boat tours from Charter`s Creek and fishing or the launching of boats from any of the three camps is not possible because of the low level of Lake St Lucia.

Charters Creek Camp is spectacularly situated, tucked into the wooded western shoreline of Lake St Lucia. There is a communal kitchen for guests who require self-catering facilities. The camp is a favourite destination of anglers and birdwatchers and an ideal base for relaxation and comfortable walks. The camp consists of a seven bed cottage, a 2 bed self catering chalet and fourteen rest huts in configurations of 4,3, and 2 beds that share a communal lounge, ablution block and two kitchens. Fridges are provided in each unit and there are freezers in the kitchen. The units are fully equiped and serviced daily. Visitors must provide their own food and drink and do their own catering. There are eight campsites adjacent to the hutted camp with hot and cold ablutions. Due to the recent introduction of elephants to the western shores of Lake St Lucia, the self guided trails are no longer available to the public due to safety considerations. Nearby attractions include Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park, Mkhuze Game Reserve and the St Lucia Estuary, each an hour's drive away. Boat tours on Lake St Lucia have been suspended until further notice due to the low water levels of the lake.
Directions The turn-off to the camp from the N2 highway is 20kms north of Mtubatuba and 30 kms south of Hluhluwe . Charters Creek is a further 18 kms east along this road.
Pets are not permitted into the reserve.
"No entry fees will be charged for visits by KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Primary and Secondary School groups, from KZN Schools to KZN Protected Areas and St Lucia Crocodile Centre provided that such visits:
1. are authorised by the Head of the school
2. are booked in advance with the Officer in Charge of the Protected Area or Crocodile Centre
3. do not take place over weekends, during KZN Provincial school holidays or Public Holidays".
