Age old traditions passed down by generations of tribal existence still continue to this day - ancient fishing kraals erected and tendered by the resourceful Tonga people. Kosi Bay has been described as "A wonderful aquarium and the most gorgeous aviary". Utshwayelo Lodge takes its name from the fish kraal celebrating the traditions and culture of the Tonga people – a community partnership project of skills sharing and a life of purpose. Utshwayelo Lodge situated at Kosi Bay Mouth is the only lodge in the area easily accessible by motor car and 5km from the Mozambique border post – chalets and camping. Snorkel in the channel at the mouth of the estuary, with its kaleidoscope of over 200 species of tropical fish, surf angling from unspoiled beaches, boating on the magnificent lakes, or fly-fishing from the rocks and banks. Do the turtle walk and watch big Leather Back Turtles lumbar out of the ocean to lay eggs on the beach, and little ones scampering back into the sea – swim with dolphins – scuba dive – walk miles of pristine beaches and turquoise waters – just you and Gods beauty. FacilitiesChoose between:One of the large, private camp sites idyllically positioned under magnificent Waterberry trees. Wake up to the sweet melody of a variety of birds welcoming a new day in paradise! Enclosed in a natural reed boma, they have grass, a tap, light & dustbin. or One of Six 2 sleeper self catering Chalets with bedding provided. Both are serviced ablutions facilities with hot water running water. A communal kitchen with utensils is available as well as a lounge area and bonfire boma. Wood, ice and some other basics are available at the office. Limited fridge and freezer space available.
DirectionsDirections from Johannesburg From Johannesburg take the N17 Toll road East to Ermelo via Leandra and Bethal; Take the N2 to Piet Retief and then Pongola; 40km after Pongola turn left to Jozini; Immediately after going through Jozini the road splits - take the left fork, go over the dam wall and continue north. 40km after the dam wall at the T-junction at turn right (not left to Ingwavuma) and travel a further 70km to Emanguzi / Kosi. Directions from Pretoria From Johannesburg take the N12 to Witbank. From Pretoria take the N4 to Witbank; From Witbank take the N4 to Middelburg; the N11 to Hendrina and then onto Ermelo; Take the N2 to Piet Retief and then Pongola; 40km after Pongola turn left to Jozini; Immediately after going through Jozini the road split - take the left fork, go over the dam wall and continue north. 40km after the dam wall at the T-junction at turn right (not left to Ingwavuma) and travel a further 70km to Emanguzi / Kosi. Directions from Durban Take the N2 north towards Empangeni; Go past Empangeni and take off-ramp to Hluhluwe / Sodwana Bay; Drive through Hluhluwe and then follow the R22 and directions to Mbazwana; Continue passed Mbazwane for a further 45 kilometers and at the large traffic circle turn right, signposted KwaNgwanase / Kosi, Emanguzi / Manguzi.
